So, a meme... new friend or old friend, this is your chance to get to know me a little better. Here's how it works:

1. Comment and ask me 5 questions. They can be simple or complicated and you can ask me anything and I will answer it.
2. Repost so I can ask YOU 5 questions.

It's TBR Challenge day again. I have been a serious slacker in the past month. I know I've been reading but I think I've forgotten a couple of books. So I think this month we were supposed to read a book with a tortured hero. I just grabbed things off my shelf. I don't pay attention to that stuff.

Hope's Folly by Linnea Sinclair - This is her latest novel and the third book in the Dock Five series. I have not read the first two books and didn't have trouble understanding things so they can stand on their own. There's been a bit of a coup in this universe and our hero and heroine are on the side of those fighting against those now in charge. The hero is the ship's captain and about 20 years older than the heroine, a security officer. He had served under her father and met her when she was a child. She had always had a crush on him. She goes after him, satisfied with it just to be a fling since she doesn't believe he'd want something serious with her. But they both want each other the same way. And hey, the space battle at the end of this book rocks! Now I need to go back and read the other books that came before.

Letters from Home by Rhonda Nelson - This was the June Blaze book in their series this year about men in the military. The hero has been receiving letters from home while stationed in the Middle East. The letters are from a mysterious woman revealing all the fantasies she has about him. He's allowed to go home for a week after his brother is injured in the line of duty and loses half a leg (the brother is the hero in July's book). His mysterious letter writer is his brother's best friend who has been in love with him since they were teenagers. They strive to find a way to balance his duty and love of traveling around the world with her love of their small costal town. Very wonderful friends to lovers story.

Okay and I know I read some other stuff in here but I can't remember any of it. I know I read something non-fiction in hardback. And I've started several books (a steampunk anthology, a contemporary, magical realism novel), but set them all aside because they just couldn't keep my attention.

Last night, Scott and I were just hanging out watching a little tv. I was trying to get J to sleep. He wasn't in the mood. Wasn't fussy or anything, just wasn't tired. Just wanted to lay in my arms and stare at the ceiling. He was totally vegging out. It was about 8 and someone knocked on our door. My first thought, "if this is some freakin' sales person at 8 o'clock at night, I'm going to kick their ass." However, it wasn't. It was our neighbors from two doors down. They were going around introducing themselves to everyone and brought us a plate of cookies. How sweet is that! I didn't know people still did that sort of thing. Of course now I can't remember their names.

We're prepping for the in-law visit. This weekend I want to wash all the sheets and towels and get started on doing a giant scrub down of the bathrooms (starting with the guest one upstairs). Also, on Sunday I'm hoping to do some work out in the garage going through some boxes that I haven't opened since we moved in. I got rid of a ton of stuff when I moved, but now I'm thinking I can be even more vicious and cull even more stuff. I'm also thinking of doing another book culling. I've been looking more and more at my bookshelves and I have books on there that I've had for 5+ years that I've never read. If I haven't read it by now am I ever going to?

I'm just very much feeling the need to seriously de-clutter my life.

Oh, and my husband has a new favorite website.

Baby J update

Well they said it's just a slight viral infection. Basically just give him Tylenol till he's feeling better. But he seems to passed whatever this is on to me now. Either he or Scott gave it to me. I started feeling bad yesterday and it got worse as the day went on. I'm now completely stuffed up, achy, tired, etc etc etc. Everyone is resting today (too bad we're all sick because we had plans to do house stuff today).

Scott just went upstairs to take a nap with J. I'm in the recliner downstairs with Minne watching The Deadliest Catch, though I think I'll be falling asleep pretty quick myself.

Baby J is not having a smiley day. Last night we had an Exorcist moment (the whole bottle he had eaten 30 minutes before came spewing out in 3 bursts -- mostly over my legs) and he had a temp of 100.5. During the night he was super congested, fussy, warm, and generally not a happy camper.

This morning he was super congested (I got massive snot out with the aspirator), but relatively happy. The day care called about an hour ago. He has not been himself today - slight fever, crying, won't eat, won't sleep, refuses to be swaddled -- not my normal happy boy. Plus she said that he's so congested she's concerned about how much air he's getting in.

Scott is home sick so I called him and he was going to get him early today anway. But we also called the doctor and even though they're completely full, because of his age, they're going to squeeze him in this afternoon. So I'm leaving work around 2 to catch a bus (which will take an hour since the express buses don't start till 3ish) and meet Scott at the doctor's office.

Come see me be an idiot..

Okay, so for Mother's Day, my wonderful hubby got me an alarm clock (I didn't have one and was using my cell phone as my alarm clock) and a digital photo keychain (now I have pictures of J with me everywhere). Then he told me that there was something else coming for me but it needed personalization so it was going to be a couple weeks. Now, yesterday he sends me an email at work saying how last night was going to be a good night for me (he suspected that the gift was arriving yesterday).

I get home and he shows me this cool coffee table book he bought for us (DC Comics Vault book -- so cool!) and then says how the gift didn't come but it should be here today. Okay, no biggie. I go upstairs change my clothes and come back down. He had just laid J in the Pack 'n Play. He then says how it's been a while and J probably needs a diaper change. So I go over to do it and undo his onesie and I notice something sticking out of the top of diaper. I undo the diaper and pull out this little felt-like envelope thing that's like 2x3 inches. Inside of it is a necklace.

This is where I turn into an idiot...

Me: There's something in his diaper.
Scott: What is it?
Me: (I open the envelope see a necklace). It's a necklace. (Lay it on the dining room table).
Scott: How did that get there?
Me: Maybe it fell out of .... (you could hear the lightbulb go off over my head) Is that my gift? (now is where I really look at the necklace and if I'd done that before I might have caught on quicker).

The necklace looks like a little silver calendar of the month of February with a blue stone over the 1st. He said he wanted to get me something special for Mother's Day commemorating Jakob's birthday. I have the sweetest husband. In the future I will be on the look-out for jewelry hidden in places (the necklace he gave me at Christmas was tucked into the toe of the one of the slippers he gave me).

TBR Challenge Day

I believe this month's theme was Friends to Lovers but I have no idea if I have any books in my TBR pile with that theme. I'm not really going by the theme, just randomly grabbing what looks interesting right now off my TBR pile.

This month I went with Alexis Morgan's Dark Warrior Unleashed, the first book in her Talion series. I'm a big fan of her Paladin series so it's not a surprise that I enjoyed this one as well. We have strong modern day warriors and Norse mythology, a CREEPY villain, and a heroine whose life is turned upside down and luckily she never turns into a TSTL kind of gal. And there's also the hot sexxin' going on.

I'm very excited for the next book to see where she goes with it and who she might be introducing as the next hero.

Latest set of books...

Flashpoint by Jill Shalvis - This was the first of two books that she did about firefighters in a small California town. I liked this book because of the long lead-up to when the Hero/Heroine finally got together. Heroine is only in town temporarily and doesn't want to get involved with anyone. Unfortunately, she and one of the firefighters she's working with have crazy chemistry. She finally breaks down and agrees to allow him to help her "let loose" with the understanding that it's just sex. Brooke has to decide if she'll stay in town when she finds herself caring for Zach or take off to her next temporary job. There's also a subplot about some suspicious fires that might be arson. That was really unnecessary and didn't add anything to the story. I did have a quibble about the story (I mentioned it earlier in the week) but if forget about that then it's all good.

Witch Heart by Anya Bast - I have been a serious slacker. I have had this book since the day it came out but hadn't gotten around to reading it.. why, I don't know because I loved it. Not surprising since I don't think I've read anything by her that I haven't loved. It's sad that there's only one more book in the series. Great character growth by heroine and hero. And I love all the supporting cast.

Life's That Way by Jim Beaver - If you're a fan of Supernatural or Deadwood, you know who Jim Beaver is. In 2003, his wife of 15 years was diagnosed with lung cancer. That night he sent an email to a couple hundred friends telling them about what was happening. That was the start of a nightly email that eventually ended up going to 1,000s of people informing them of Cecily's ongoing fight for her life. The book is a compilation of those emails. It is a heartbreaking read, painful at times. But it is also filled with so much love. Love that he had for Cecily and their love for their daughter (who at the time had been diagnosed with autism a few months earlier).

I have not been buying much in the way of books the last few months. Primarily because I was paycheck-less for a couple months, so I had to cut back on any miscellaneous spending. Instead, I've been getting a lot of books from the library and trying to pare down my TBR shelf (really several shelves at home). But I've also been keeping a list of books that I want. This is the list I have at my desk at work (some have already been released and some are being released in the next couple of months):

Bound by Honor - Colette Gale
Magic Strikes - Ilona Andrews
Branded by Fire - Nalini Singh
Eve of Darkness - SJ Day
Witch Fury - Anya Bast
Relentless - Lauren Dane
The Dangerous Book for Demon Slayers - Angie Fox
Darkborn - Alison Sinclair
Norse Code - Greg van Eekhout
Flood - Stephen Baxter
Gladiatrix - Russell Whitfield
